The Effect of Radiofrequency Microneedling on Sweat Gland Activity in Hyperhidrosis
Author: Candela
Hyperhidrosis or “excessive sweating” is a common disorder of uncontrollable and excessive sweating experienced by millions of individuals and impacting quality of life. Depending on the severity of the condition, topical antiperspirants, prescription-strength aluminum chloride solutions, oral medications or Botox® injections may offer relief but have their drawbacks. Another emerging and promising alternative to manage excessive sweating is microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) treatment. Very thin microneedles are inserted into the armpits just under the skin, and the RF energy heats the sweat glands to reduce their activity. The procedure is quick with minimal discomfort. Generally, 3 treatments are needed, and results can last up to 1 year.
