Reference: Wilkerson EC, Bloom BS, Goldberg DJ. J Cosmet Dermatol. 2018 Apr;17(2):157-161.
Study Details:
- 14 females with age 33-60 years, Fitzpatrick Skin Types II–IV and body mass index 24 ± 2 (range 18-30) enrolled; 10 subjects completed treatments & follow-ups
- 3 biweekly UltraShape treatments with small 12-gram transducer (USculpt) to unilateral outer thigh subdivided into 3 areas (control thigh untreated), with mean focal treatment zones (FTZ) of 7.7 ± 2 (range 6 to 12)
- Thigh fat thickness was measured by both caliper and ultrasound
Study Results:
- By ultrasound, there was a significant 19.2% reduction in fat to treated thighs
- By caliper, there was a significant 22.2% reduction in fat to treated thighs
- Statistically significant reduction of 2.8cm in treated thigh circumference
- No discomfort, all subjects reported 0 (scale of 0=no pain to 10)
- 90% patient satisfaction rate
- Transient mild erythema only associated with the treatments
