What is RF?

RF is an acronym for radio frequency. Radio frequency refers to energy delivered via electrical oscillations. Radio frequency energy translates into heat deposited in the treatment area. At Candela, RF is either used alone or in conjunction with optical or infrared energy to treat various targets in the tissue.

How is RF different?

Radio frequency is not chromophore dependent. This means that it can be used on all skin types as it is not absorbed by melanin. Candela technology utilizes bipolar radio frequency. This means that the radio frequency energy flows between two electrodes and is confined to the space between those electrodes. This enables for a consistent energy delivery, resulting in controlled heating of the treated area.

What technology uses RF?

In the Profound system, radio frequency is delivered into the deeper tissue in a precise manner, controlling temperature to improve wrinkles and the appearance of cellulite.
