The Best in The Spa Industry in 2019
From floating spas and desert retreats to the best in spa robes and skin care, the annual American Spa Professional’s Choice Awards cover a broad spectrum. The list, now in its 15th year, highlights 50 standouts from 2019 that represent excellence around the world. The wide-ranging selection is a firm reminder of how large the growing spa industry is.
The cozy Floating Spa at Monkey Island Estate (Bray, UK) earned the honor of Favorite New International Spa. The luxurious locales of Miraval earned recognition for Favorite Destination Spa and its Austin, Texas spa was named the Favorite New U.S. Spa. The urban setting of Chuan Spa at Chicago’s Langham Hotel earned a mention for Favorite Resort Spa.
The Rise of the Medical Spa
The awards list also includes specialized spas, and it featured several mentions of those who excel in the medical spa market, from locations to equipment providers. Blue Medi Spa (Sherman Oaks, CA) was named the Favorite Medical Spa in 2019, and finalists included Blue Water Spa (Raleigh, NC), Trifecta Med Spa + Wellness (multiple locations), Alchemy 43 (multiple locations) and Tribeca Medical Spa (New York, NY).
It’s no surprise that this segment is receiving a significant amount of attention. According to Grand View Research, the global medical spa market is expected to reach $33.9 billion by 2026 and have a compound annual growth rate of 13.8%. And some of the procedures popular at medical spas are finding their way into the offering of more traditional spas.
The Popularity of Med Spa Procedures
The extensive research done by Grand View offers deeper insights into medical spa trends, and what to expect in the future. Facial treatments of all kinds were the most popular form of procedure in 2018, according to the latest research. But body shaping and contouring are expected to see extremely large growth in the next five years.
North America is the leader in the medical spa segment when it comes to revenue, but Asia Pacific is a fast-growing market. Grand View’s research hints that spas in Asia are expected to add medical spa treatments to the traditional beauty procedures they’re known for.
The industry is changing for the better, and 2020 should mean more growth among spas worldwide.
