Employee Spotlight: Michael Leung
Shining the light on our employees
We would like to introduce Service Director Asia Pacific, Michael Leung to you. Michael has been with our organization for almost 18 years. He is based in Bangkok and leads the service business for the whole region, working closely with our direct offices and business partners.
Born in Belgium with Chinese roots, Michael started working in a Chinese restaurant at a young age and started to learn the importance of customer service. At that time, he became very interested in how to fix things especially after he broke his first TV set and tried to repair it unsuccessfully! Ever since then, Michael has been very involved with electronics and computers as his hobby. Fast forward to 1992 when he graduated from university with a major in Electromechanics and a focus on Industrial Engineering receiving his first job as a Mechanical Designer for a Belgian company. As the only Asian employee in the organization, Michael had the opportunity to move to Thailand in 1998 where he supervised the injection molding production division for a few years.
Michael started as the APAC Service Engineer for Candela in 2001 where he managed tech support. He travelled frequently and did repairs onsite, as well as conducted service trainings for all Candela devices. Today, he is still covering the majority of these functions and he is now involved with all aspects of the Candela service business.
What he has learned over the years is that customer satisfaction is the key metric for success. He believes that helping customers, understanding their challenges and following through with quick and effective solutions is the best approach. Attending to this is not always easy, as each day can be very different and very challenging due to growing customer needs, local customs and regulations, 3rd party competition, product/parts quality and supply issues as well as the evolution of the Candela organization over the years. But for Michael, this makes for a very interesting work environment and even after 18 years, he continues to learn new things everyday.
Michael believes that the most important thing is to work together as a team. At the end of the day it’s our customers’ happiness that makes us successful!
