Job Brief
The successful candidate will design and construct R&D prototype laser systems (including solid-state lasers and dye lasers), and harmonic conversion systems with unique performance characteristics.
General responsibilities
- Analysis of new laser concepts through theoretical and/or computational models.
- Design, demonstration and analysis of optical performance of Proof-of-Concept lasers
- Development and/or characterization of critical laser components.
- Evaluation and improvement of current processes and components.
- Preparation of documentation both for internal R&D use and for transfer of products to engineering.
- Generation and documentation of new IP.
- Participation in project planning, data reviews, and design reviews.
- Independent investigator to lead device development project
- Collaboration with external vendors, industry and academic partners to mature laser technology
- Travel as needed such as supporting prototypes in the field
Education and work experience
- Advanced degree in Science and/or Engineering required
- >3 years of experience in laser industry is preferred.
- Hands on experience with solid state lasers. Experience with dye laser is plus.
- Broad knowledge base of various laser technologies
- Hands on design experience with laser resonator design, short pulse generation (i.e., Q-switched/mode locking), nonlinear optical techniques and laser amplifiers
- Proficient knowledge of laser test equipment and measurement procedures
- Specialized skills such as numerical modeling and simulation tools for analyzing complex optical and laser systems
- Experience developing medical devices is preferred
- High level of motivation, self-organization, multi-tasking and analytical skills
- Ideally expertise in project management
- Target-oriented work approach to conclude tasks and to summarize and present complex issues
- Superior problem-solving skills and have good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments
